YEAR DESCRIPTION ST#
1919 Handwritten Letter from Wright to Miriam Noel in 1919 while he was in Japan working on the Imperial Hotel. Written on The Ikao Hotel letterhead, Ikao, Japan.
"–1919.
Miriam - dearest: I have gone to 'keep my eye off the other fellow'. It will a hard work for me! against my grain but I know how to concentrate and to hope.
I shall write Krymska that I realize I need look no-where for causes for your condition except in my own chicanery jealousies and suspicions.
I will write Wigginture the same. Mogind also - although that has already been done.
I had already written Sherman Booth in my last letter to him that 'you had made me a better, straighter man and a dirty job you had had of it.'
Read your Science in this ideal cool healing spot of earth. I will be doing the same for my life!
Do not despair - God is, you know and outcasts though we are and sinful as I am he knows and is kind - because he is good.
'The work of Frank Lloyd Wright' has a new and sinister look to me now. I shall wince when I see it on the drawings and books -
I shall think of that other work to be attributed to that same name - with perfect truth.
God bless you - my dear - I needed you so much more than you needed me. I know now what I - what is me in human sense has done -- Frank."
Published in Autograph Collector, July 1999, page 31, and "was offered by Seaport Autographs for $4,250 in 1990." Robert Edwards Auctions reported that in 2005 it sold for $2,900. 7.5 x 10.25. High res digital image.
