Title: House & Garden Book
of Style (Hard Cover DJ) (Published by Clarkson P{otter /
Publishers, New York)
Author: Browning, Dominique;
Slesin, Suzanne; Irving, Carolina; Frank, Cynthia; Pochoda,
Elizabeth; Moonan, Wendy; Cunningham, Caroline
Description: Dust jacket: For the
past century, one name has defined American taste: House &
Garden magazine. No matter what period, or what style, House &
Garden has been there to chronicle the way we live-and the way
we want to live. Now, as the magazine celebrates its one
hundredth anniversary, the House & Garden Book of Style looks at
the bright present instead of the dimming past: here is the very
best of contemporary dec-orating, covering everything from
Shingle-style beach cottages to ornate town houses and
cutting-edge lofts.
The
domestic arts are flourishing today, bringing an unprecedented
range of choices to an enthusiastic audi-ence. The result is
that for the first time no one style dominates American
decorating in the way that Art Deco did in the twenties,
Modernism did in the fifties, or Pop Art did in the sixties. As
editor-in-chief Dominique Browning points out in her foreword,
"We live in a time that celebrates variety, and our job at House
& Garden has been to chronicle all the different kinds of
stylishness that enthrall and delight our modern sensibilities."
Seven
sections, the last being Mid-Century Modern. One of the five
homes featured in this section is Frank Lloyd Wright's
Bachman-Wilson House. Includes five photographs of the home.

Title:
Frank Lloyd Wright's Bachman-Wilson House (Soft Cover) (Published by
Scala Arts Publishers, Inc. New York)
Author: DeBerry,
Linda; Turk, Dylan
Description: Originally designed by
Frank Lloyd Wright in 1954, the Bachman-Wilson House now resides,
fully restored, in the grounds of Crystal Bridges Museum of American
Art in Bentonville, Arkansas. It is an example of what Wright called
"ËśUsonian" architecture, a distinctly American and democratic style
of residential architecture he developed during the Great Depression
to be within the reach of the average middle-class family, without
sacrificing quality. The house was originally situated in New Jersey
but, after being threatened by repeated flooding, the entire
structure was dismantled and transported to Crystal Bridges.
Meticulously reconstructed from the original plans, the house opened
to the public in the fall of 2015. This fully illustrated
publication highlights this classic structure, and further cements
the architectural legacy of Frank Lloyd Wright. (Publisher's
description.) Original cover price $14.95.

Title:
Stuart Richardson Residence, Glenn Ridge, New Jersey, Original
Side Chairs, 1976 (1940 - S.282).
Description:
Set of two original side chairs from the Stuart Richardson
Residence. Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1940, the house was
not constructed for a full decade. It exemplifies Wright's
Usonian homes, utilizing a hexagon unit module. The house
features red brick and cypress construction, with a heated
concrete floor in Cherokee red. Floor-to-ceiling windows and
doors flooded the living room with light, fourteen glass doors
that open outward to the patio. Wright also designed the dining
table and chairs, with the dining room table being built-in.
The Richardson’s daughter, Margot Richardson Aronson and her husband
acquired the home in 1976 and lived there for twenty years. John and Edith
Payne purchased the house in 1996. Edith Payne sold the home after her
husbands death, and the new owner, Daniel Maurer, lived there until it was
sold in 2019. In the mid-seventies,
six of these chairs were produced by the Aronsons. When placed side -by-side
they form a modular seating system. They remained in the Richardson
Residence for nearly 45 years. The Frank Lloyd Wright Archives at
the Avery Library hold the plans for the Richardson Residence
(FLLW#4104). They include drawings for the dining room table
(FLLW#1404.12) and chairs (FLLW#1404.14). Although we were
unable to locate plans in the archives for these chairs, in our
quest, we realized these are nearly an exact match of the
Dorothy Turkel Residence (1955)...
