The host for the program was Hugh Downs. Clipping on verso: "Frank Lloyd Wright, brilliant American architect, will be presented in a conversation with Hugh Downs of NBC' Chicago staff, Sunday, May 17, at 2:30 p.m. CT over WNBQ - Channel 5 and NBC. This will be the fifth in a series of filmed conversations with distinguished figures of this age." Stamped on clipping: "May 20 1953." Note: Interesting to note the chair Wright brought to the interview. It appears to be a side chair designed in 1939 for the Lloyd Lewis Residence (S.265). This placed Wright much higher than Downs, forcing him to continually look up at Wright during the interview.

Lloyd Lewis Residence & Farm Unit, Libertyville, Illinois, 2019 (1939/43 - S.265/266). Set of 80 images of the Lloyd Lewis Residence, photographed on October 16, 2019. On a road trip through the Midwest, we took the opportunity to visit and photograph the Lloyd Lewis Residence. Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1939. Wright resurrected the Willey Scheme I design, first conceived in 1932. October 14 was a beautiful, slightly overcast fall Midwest day, perfect for capturing the Lewis Residence.
Setting on a sprawling, two-acre expanse thick with trees on the eastern bank of the Des Plaines River, the house enjoys both privacy and a scenic natural setting. The house is elevated on brick piers, serving to safeguard against potential damage from dampness or flooding.
The long and winding drive ends on the North side of the house. A Cherokee red sidewalk leads you around the West end of the house, feet from the water’s edge. As you continue around the corner, the sidewalk leads to the Loggia, situated under the living room. At the end of the loggia is the hidden entry to the house. There is also a shortcut through the carport. The ground level includes the carport, servants quarters, guest bedroom, loggia and entry hall.
Inside the entry hall, turning left leads you to a guest bedroom. Turn right, up six stairs, leads to the landing and the bedroom wing, two bedrooms each with its own bath.. Continuing up stairs to the left, leads to the main living level, living room and dining area, workspace and sanctum (study).
Henry-Russell Hitchcock wrote: “The Lewis house atLibertyville, Illinois... is most remarkable for the rich colours and the harmonious forms of its furnishing in what are perhaps the most successful of all the newer interiors.” In The Nature of Materials, 1942, p.97.
Bruce Brooks Pfeiffer wrote: “Now again in 1940, as in 1900, he was building for the prairie condition, intensified here because of the marsh and the adjacent river. For his friend he created one of the loveliest homes he ever designed, and both Lloyd Lewis and his wife Kathryn lived in the house in a beautiful setting, with every detail and feature designed by their architect-friend... the result shows such a marvelous interior harmony, and peaceful blending with the wooded site, that the house truly became a tribute to both of them and their friendship.” Frank Lloyd Wright Monograph, 1937-1941, 1986/1990, p.170.
Lloyd Lewis Farm Unit. The ground plan could have defined the site as a gentleman’s farm. The plan included an auxiliary structure, “Farm Unit” that included stalls for a cow, two horses and appeared to function as a chicken coop. The plan also included walls and garden plots. The south lawn extends to the banks of the river, and contain three large flower beds.

The plan included an auxiliary structure, “Farm Unit” that included stalls for a cow, two horses and appeared to function as a chicken coop. The plan also included walls and garden plots.
